Overview
Lantern Ventures is a London based management company operating a market neutral hedge fund specialising in cryptocurrencies. We use technologies developed in house to identify and execute on trading opportunities arising in cryptocurrency markets worldwide. Lantern Ventures is a highly dynamic environment where curiosity, analytical thinking and kindness are highly valued. This is a strongly mission-driven organisation, donating 50% of founder profits to highly effective charities. A mission-aligned candidate would be viewed particularly favorably.
This wide-ranging operations role will give you insight into how a business, and a hedge fund, run. It’ll let you work across many different areas of the business (areas outlined below) though your main focus will be on middle office and pure ops. You will work under supervision of the COO but will interact on a daily basis with colleagues across the business, including the rest of the senior leadership team.
Middle Office:
- Core responsibilities:
- Act as primary POC to fund administrators for all fund life cycle and investor events (subscriptions, redemptions, closings, drawdowns, equalisations, distributions, structured secondaries, liquidations).
- Provide the fund administrators with monthly data to assist with reconciliation, where not available through APIs.
- Reconcile and review monthly NAVs prepared by the fund administrators.
- Manage paying out fund expenses and help out with budgeting and accrual planning
Pure Operations:
- Core Responsibilities:
- Keep our accounts active and compliant by responding to information requests from exchanges, and setting up accounts with new service providers or for new products.
- Take responsibility for the basic functioning of the physical office space. This includes odds and ends like regularly ordering supplies, acting as point of contact for the outsourced office cleaning team and rubbish and recycling provision.
- Growth area: There’s space for growth in the administration of the management company across finance and corporate administration. There also may be space to understand new products and keep tabs on feature roll-outs, and review and identify potential deal-breakers for us using new products. You can attend industry events, meet our counterparties and get a handle on industry trends.
Investor relations:
- Core responsibility: Support our investor relations team in clearing KYC, update investor materials with monthly figures.
- Growth Area: Take over the full back-end of IR operations, cultivate your own network of potential investors and act as their point of contact, participate in re-design of investor-facing materials.
Risk management:
- Core responsibility: Pull reports to monitor how our positions expose us to given risks. Complete regular reviews of the financial stability of our main counterparties.
- Growth area: using your knowledge of the ecosystem to report on and track risk. Assist in identifying risks within the structure of the products we are considering using.
Skills, experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years experience in the finance industry, accounting or an accounting-adjacent field, or business operations. However, we are willing to accept talented and motivated candidates with more limited experience who can demonstrate a longstanding interest in cryptocurrency or financial services, whose work experience is focused on other areas. We will also accept candidates with more limited experience who strongly align with our company values, with a demonstrated track record of top performance in other areas.
Role requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail and diligence, with the ability to turn around requests in a prompt and correct manner.
- Strong computer skills, experience using the Google Suite of products, particularly spreadsheets, and the ability to learn new computer systems quickly and in-depth. We are heavy users of Slack, Telegram and Signal and strong experience using cloud based products is a must. We also expect a willingness to try out AI productivity tools and assess their utility.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Specialized knowledge in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry preferred, and in particular, a curiosity and enthusiasm about the commercial crypto space.
- A healthy respect for the value of building processes, and improving them over time.
- A strong knowledge of finance and accounting practices, ideally with experience in a financial services firm is desirable.
Training and progression
This role is ideally suited to someone keen to learn, grow and develop a specialty in one or a few of the listed areas and will be particularly rewarding for candidates with generalist interests and a can-do attitude looking for non-linear growth paths. We operate with a high degree of freedom and your career trajectory will be open to your interests and willingness to define it. If you are interested in pursuing an accounting qualification, please mention this and we will see if we can support you in it.
Salary and benefits
Salary commensurate with experience.
Potential for significant bonus and salary progression for candidates who exceed expectations, along with the growth and success of the firm
33 days of annual leave (including bank holidays)
Generous sick leave, carers leave, compassionate leave and parental leave
